Tergo is a community of parents of LGBTQI+ children.

A public initiative with the Latin name “Tergo”, which means reinforcement, appeared in Kyiv in 2013. The main goal of this association of people who care about the lives and fate of LGBTQI+ people in Ukraine is to provide moral, spiritual and material support to representatives of non-traditional sexual minorities who, unlike in Europe and the United States, are currently experiencing difficult times in their homeland.

Tergo is the home front
One of the most acute problems for contemporary homosexuals is their relationship with their parents, who were raised on the artificial values of communist apologists. The society as a whole is not ready to accept LGBTQI+ people with understanding, and therefore they experience difficulties in finding a job, medical care, self-realization and personal development.

That is why we, parents and people close to the LGBTQI+ community, decided to unite in a group to provide help and support. From time to time, we meet at the office of the all-Ukrainian charity organization Fulcrum. During our meetings, we study the experience of similar organizations abroad, we look into scientific approaches and research results on the phenomenon of homosexuality, organize support groups for young people who see the need to come out but are afraid of the reaction of their loved ones or have any other problems that are difficult to solve in a not entirely friendly environment; we provide social support to parents who have learned about their child’s homosexuality (most often, this is a fairly adult person) and are now going through a difficult period of adjustment. In addition, we try to find solutions to the issues of legal protection of LGBTQI+ people together.

We call for and take practical steps to unite community members and their loved ones, because together we have the necessary strength and can defend our interests and rights.
